With the help of many City fans, York Minstermen have, in three
years, raised nearly £50,000 for York City FC, the great
majority of it having been donated to help with specific projects,
such as the Youth Development Fund, equipment to aid players’
recovery from injury, and action to improve the playing surfaces
at Bootham Crescent and the training ground.
York Minstermen were launched in June 2004, to galvanise support
for York City and to raise funds for the club and trust following
relegation from the Football League.
The group arranges fundraising and social events, and runs occasional
coaches to City away matches. Membership costs £5 per
season for adults, £2 for under-18s, whilst a family memberships
(two adults and one or more under-18s living at the same address)
costs just £10.
The group has helped revitalise the York City Social Club, generating
an increased turnover for the football club. York Minstermen
organise volunteers to staff the bar for a variety of events,
such as meetings, quizzes, darts matches, live music, and at
reserve games. This had generated around £25,000 in bar
sales by May 2007.
York Minstermen are always keen to welcome new members and encourage
City fans (not just in York but anywhere in the world) to join.
By doing so you will know that you are helping the football
club and that also you will be part of a supporters group which
is working hard to help York City to win back its place in the
football league.
York Minstermen also seek to engage with the wider football
world and are affiliated to the Football Supporters' Federation
(see www.fsf.org.uk.
