York City FC have accepted an undisclosed fee for Richard Brodie from Crawley Town just before last nights transfer deadline.

It was a Club decision to accept the fee.

Two months ago the Club offered Richard Brodie a new contact which was turned down. Richard Brodie was out of contract at the end of the season and would have been able to leave then for free. The Club did not want a similar situation to Clayton Donaldson whereby he was 23 and left to play in Scotland for free.

At that time the Chairman received criticism for not receiving a fee although his only aim was to get York City promoted.

This time the Club had to let the player leave and accept a fee, bearing in mind that the player had asked to go. We all wish Richard well for the future.

As a Club we now have to move forward and look to the future.

50/50 Cash Draw - Altrincham

Matt Pope, from Unit One Disco Services, took a break from providing the match day music to draw the winning 50/50 tickets.

The winner of the £260 cash prize was Robert Havercroft, the PA announcer at Bootham Crescent. Robert, who didn't realise it was his ticket when he announced the number to the crowd, was my first customer of the day, when he bought ticket 001999.

The one hour pitch hire at PlayFootball at Clifton Moor was claimed by Steve Fields from Norton, who had bought ticket 003551 from Kevin in the car park. Steve collected the prize with 11 year old James Wood, who I hope will enjoy the prize with his friends.

The £20 voucher for Stonegate Yard Bar & Brasserie in Little Stonegate was picked up by Luke Day of Badger Hill. It is a prize that he should be sharing with Brian Wilson (not the Beach Boy!) after they bought ticket 003443 from Dave in the car park.

Finally, I am pleased to say that a cheque for £4,000 was handed to the football club, on Saturday. It represents the profits from the 50/50 at the last few games in the 2009/10 season and the first few games of this season.

Good luck on Saturday, at the Rushden & Diamonds game, and don't forget to check your tickets before you go home!

Ian Tyssen - 50/50 Cash Draw Promoter
Tel: 07794 091810 E-mail: ian.tyssen@hotmail.com

York City 3 Altrincham 0

York City 3 Altrincham 0
By Rob Guest

York finally registered their first win of the new season at the fifth time of asking after a 3-0 home win over lowly Altrincham.
Michael Rankine was at the double for City with Richard Brodie also on the scoresheet with late goals to give The Minstermen a much craved win.

Following the teams disappointing 0-0 draw with Barrow in midweek Martin Foyle made one change to the starting XI with Peter Till coming in for Jonathan Smith in midfield.

Despite languishing at the bottom of the table with one point from their opening four games it was Altrincham who started the brighter. After only five minutes Michael Ingham was pressed into action as he tipped wide Matty Crowell’s ambitious 40 yard dipping effort with a superb save. If that wasn’t an early warning then two Robbie Williams headers certainly gave City cause for concern as Ingham twice denied the defender.

York’s first meaningful effort on goal came on thirteen minutes as Brodie’s over hit cross from the right just drifted over Stuart Coburn’s crossbar. Brodie again went close two minutes later but he volleyed wide from Till’s cross after good play from the lively winger. At the halfway stage in the half Michael Gash produced a moment of brilliance as he beat Michael Welch with a Cruyff turn before firing high over Coburn’s crossbar. After much pressure from the home side they finally got the ball in the back of the net but it was ruled out for offside as Brodie followed up Alex Laweless’ deflected effort only for the linesman to raise his flag.

Five minutes from half-time Lawless was inches away from finding the back of the net as his wind assisted free kick struck the corner of the bar with Coburn rooted to the spot. Gash had City’s final chance of the half but he fired wide following a great through ball from Till who was involved in all of City’s good play.

The Minstermen carried on their dominance at the start of the second half with both Djoumin Sangare and Gash having efforts on goal without troubling Coburn. With City desperately needing a goal Martin Foyle sent on Rankine on the hour mark and the change swung the game in City’s favour. Almost immediately Rankine was involved as his low cross was stabbed wide by Brodie but ten minutes after coming on he struck the opening goal with an unstoppable effort across Coburn. Following good play from Lawless, Rankine played a one-two with strike partner Gash before firing into the bottom right hand corner to raise the roof. Straight from kick off Altrincham almost levelled the score but Ingham was to the rescue once again to tip over Shaun Densmore’s miss hit cross from the right.

Four minutes after the opening goal City had the chance to wrap up the game from the penalty spot as Brodie was brought down in the area by Marc Joseph who was unaware that the striker was behind him. Last season’s top scorer dusted himself down and calmly sent Coburn the wrong way from the spot to give City a two goal advantage. With Rankine and Brodie already on the score sheet fellow strike partner Gash was still looking for his goal and he nearly got it eight minutes from time but he somehow put the ball wide from in front of the goal after Rankine’s low cross. In stoppage time Rankine put the result beyond doubt as he collected Brodie’s pass to produce a quick turn and shot past Coburn to give City a much needed win.

York City – Michael Ingham, Daniel Parslow, David McGurk, Djoumin Sangare, James Meredith, Peter Till (Jonathan Smith 83), Alex Lawless, Neil Barrett, Chris Carruthers (Michael Rankine 58), Richard Brodie, Michael Gash

Substitutes – Duane Courtney, Greg Young, David McDermott

York City FC Assistant Manager Andy Porter felt that City were unlucky not to take all three points on Tuesday night.

Porter told ycfc.net "I thought that we played well against Barrow, we've created 16 chances on goal but none of them hit the back of the net and thats where the problems arise"

Porter continued, " We defended well, no complaints there, and we played at a good tempo. Barrow came for a point and shut up shop which is what we expect tomorrow from Altrincham. We expect a similar tough, uncompromising game. We've got to be in position, want the ball and go forward."

On the players out injured, Porter expects midfielder Levi Mackin to be out for another three to four weeks with his knee injury and hopes that George Purcell will be fit soon following an ankle injury picked up at the away trip to Grimsby.

For odds on tomorrows game visit Blue Square Bet at www.bluesq.com/york

50/50 Cash Draw - Barrow AFC

Two of England's finest football commentators - Guy Mowbray and Jon Champion - came along to support the Minstermen and also help with the 50/50 draw.

Thanks to Guy, the £250 prize was claimed by John Wilson from Rawcliffe, who had bought ticket number 002426 from the new seller, Richard. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Richard for helping the 50/50 team in the absence of a few regular sellers at the first two games.

The one hour pitch hire at PlayFootball, worth almost £50, was won by the holder of ticket number 003392. The person with that ticket, which was bought from myself, didn't come to the Supporters Office to pick up the prize after the game.

The prize of a £20 voucher for use at Stonegate Yard Bar & Brasserie, was won by Michael Shannon from Poppleton. Michael bought ticket number 002760 from Michael, who is usually found selling tickets to the visiting fans.

All winning tickets were bought in the car park on this occasion!

As you will have noticed, Stonegate Yard Bar & Brasserie in Little Stonegate are now providing vouchers as consolation prizes for the 50/50. There will be £10 or £20 vouchers on offer throughout the season. Thank you to Wyn at Stonegate Yard for this generous support.

Finally, the £500 prize from the Kidderminster Harriers game has still not been collected by the lucky winner. If you have ticket 001657, it's not too late to contact me, by phone or e-mail, to make arrangements to pick up your prize.

Ian Tyssen - 50/50 Cash Draw Promoter
Tel: 07794 091810 E-mail: ian.tyssen@hotmail.com

York City 0 Barrow 0

York City 0 Barrow 0 By Rob Guest York’s quest for that elusive first win of the season continued at Bootham Crescent as Barrow held strong for a point despite relentless pressure from the home side.

The visitors had goalkeeper Alan Martin to thank for their point as he kept out a number of chances as the game finished 0-0. Following Saturday’s draw away at Bath York manager Martin Foyle reverted back to 4-4-2 with Jonathan Smith coming in for Michael Rankine who dropped to the bench.

After a slow start to the match York finally created their first chance of the game with ten minutes on the clock. Following a quickly taken free-kick Chris Carruthers beat Simon Spender with his trickery before crossing for Djoumin Sangare who headed straight at Alan Martin from just inside the area. The chance proved to be the turning point for City as one minute later Smith fired high over the bar with the goal empty after Martin had come out to deny Michael Gash. Minutes later last seasons top scorer and former Barrow loanee Richard Brodie missed a guilt edge chance as he rounded Martin before uncharacteristically losing his feet with the goal gaping.

With York permanently camped in Barrow’s half Sangare had another header blocked on the line before Gash fired his volley straight into the Barrow defence. Halfway through the half in a rare foray into York’s area Barrow believed they should have had a penalty after David McGurk was adjudged to have brought down James Owen. The referee waved away the claims much to the annoyance of the Barrow team who remonstrated with the official. The decision drove Barrow on with Mark Boyd firing a driven effort just over Michael Ingham’s bar. It proved to be the visitor’s only chance of the half as the game petered out to half time with the score still goalless.

The second half was more of the same with chances few and far between. Just after half time the York fans were shouting for a penalty as Brodie was brought down in the area by Owen but their cries were not answered. It took until just shy of the hour mark for the first real chance of the second half as Boyd once again showed off his shooting prowess with another thunderbolt of an effort. Whilst his effort in the first half flew just over Ingham’s bar this one was flying into the top corner only for the goalkeeper to produce a brilliant save at full stretch. With twenty five minutes left York substitute Michael Rankine had the teams first notable chance of the half as his header flew just wide of the far post following a floated cross from Gash.

Midfield anchorman Neil Barrett then went even closer but his fine curling effort was pushed around the post by Martin. With York pushing up for the opening goal there was every chance that the visitors would catch them on the counter attack and that did happen but David McGurk came to the rescue as he produced a fine block just as Owen was just about to pull the trigger. Fifteen minutes from time Gash went close with a snap shot following a mishit cross from Daniel Parslow before York home debutant David McDermott forced Martin into a low save at his near post. From the resulting corner York found out it would not be their night as McDermott’s corner was first scrambled away by Mike Pearson before Peter Till’s low effort cannoned off the post and across the goal line. City’s final chance of the game fell to man of the match Gash but his header from Rankine’s deep cross was deflected wide for a corner as the game finished all square.

York City – Michael Ingham, Daniel Parslow, Djoumin Sangare, David McGurk, James Meredith, Alex Lawless, Jonathan Smith (Peter Till 70), Neil Barrett, Chris Carruthers (Michael Rankine 60), Michael Gash, Richard Brodie (David McDermott 79) Substitutes – Duane Courtney, Greg Young
