British Heart Foundation York City Jog
|
 |
York City FC is getting involved with the local community by
once again urging fans to pull on their trainers for the British
Heart Foundation’s (BHF) annual York City Jog.
Last year the club’s involvement helped make 2007 the
most successful year in the event’s history, with nearly
700 people taking part and raising almost £20,000 for
the work of the BHF in the region.
The York City Jog will be taking place on Tuesday 15 April.
Registration is open from 5pm and the Jog starts at 6pm after
a mass warm up. All joggers will receive a free t-shirt and
a goody bag.
The event will be held at the Knavesmire with a choice of a
5km or 3km route around the famous racecourse. The event is
open to everyone and all abilities - you can run walk or crawl
and the emphasis is firmly on having a fun evening after work
or school to get your heart pumping and help those of others
by raising vital funds to help the BHF continue its life-saving
work.
Helen Whiteley, Regional Events Organiser at BHF says “We’re
delighted the players and staff at York City FC are supporting
the York City Jog again this year. It’s a fantastic community
event in the heart of the city and everyone can join in. We
hope the fans of York City FC will bring their family and friends
along and join us to get active and have fun. Doing some exercise
is one of the best things you can do to look after yourself
and take care of your heart and we hope local people will join
us for a fun evening and help a great cause.’’
As the nation’s heart charity, the BHF saves lives through
pioneering research, patient care, campaigning for change and
providing vital information. It relies on donations of time
and money to continue its vital work, such as funding the BHF
Heart Failure Specialist Nurses in the York area and providing
grants for pioneering research at York University.
Nick Bassett, York
City FC Club Secretary added ‘This is a great community
event and the club is really pleased to be involved again in
2008. Getting active and leading a healthy lifestyle is very
much part of the club’s community development programme
and we would encourage everyone to take part - have fun and
get active.’’
