Novel sponsorship deal as Bootham Crescent Beer Festival goes
global
The latest sponsor of Bootham Crescent Beer Festival is not
a local business, but a bookshop in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
“I was absolutely gobsmacked to get a call from East Africa,”
said festival organiser Steve Barlow. “We hoped to get
support from local firms, but to get such generous help from
half way round the world is fantastic.”
A Novel Idea (www.anovelidea.co.tz)
is run by Paul Clithero, who has followed York City since he
first visited Bootham Crescentmore than 50 years ago.
Paul said, “I've lived in Tanzania for 28 years, but come
to the Crescent whenever I'm home, and am on the Internet every
week to see the results.”
The Beer Festival will take place at York City FC’s home
of 75 years, Bootham Crescent, on Sunday April 6th starting
at midday. Admission is only £7.50 and includes two pints,
a buffet lunch, and entertainment from local band Blind Alley.
Other sponsors include Bushy Brewery from the Isle of Man, the
Benfield Motor Group, Apotex UK, RoofSafe, Hyco Manufacturing,
and Ardent Finance. Brown Cow Brewery of Selby have provided
invaluable help in supplying the beers.
Brigantes Bar and Domino’s Pizza have made donations to
the festival prize draw.
“We’re very grateful to all the sponsors,”
said York Minstermen
chairman Frank Ormston. “Their generosity will help the
festival make a healthy surplus to add to almost £90,000
that York Minstermen have helped inject into the club in the
last four years through our fundraising and voluntary work”
