City eventually overcame the dogged resistance of their visitors thanks to a Michael Rankine penalty and a brilliant solo goal from Adam Smith. The Minstermen dominated proceedings and were thwarted on numerous occasions by an outstanding performance by visitng Keeper, Terry Burton.
Burton made last ditch saves on at least 5 occasions until Michael Rankine broke the deadlock after he was tripped in the box and stepped up to cooly slot home the penalty on 73 minutes. Smith, on as a 87th minute substitute, took just two minutes to make his presence felt when he hammered home having twisted and turned to make space in the box and clinch City's first win of the season.
