Report
York City opened their pre-season campaign with a 0-0
draw against local rivals Leeds United at KitKat Crescent.
The Minstermen included trialist former Lincoln City centre-back
Matthew Bloomer in place of Danny Parslow, who was ruled out
after suffering an ankle injury in training.
Meanwhile, fellow trialists Joe Brown (Bradford City), Brian
Dutton (Weymouth), Carl Jones (Hartlepool United), Adam Bartlett
(Blyth Spartans) and trainee left-back Andy McWilliams were
also introduced following the interval.
Home skipper Emmanuel Panther's header clipped the top of the
crossbar from Craig Farrell's free-kick inside the first minute,
while it took a superb diving header from centre-back David
McGurk at the opposite end to clear Tom Elliott's effort off
the line.
York substitutes Phil Turnbull and Chris Beardsley both went
close during the second-half before Leeds' striker Jermaine
Beckford fired off-target when excellently placed.
Former Mansfield Town striker Beardsley almost won it for the
hosts with seven minutes remaining when heading narrowly wide
from Alex Meechan's corner.
