Striker Chris Beardsley (31) scored the only goal as
York City defeated local rivals Bradford City 1-0 in their latest
pre-season friendly at KitKat Crescent.
York City continued their build-up to the new season as striker
Chris Beardsley (31) scored the only goal in a 1-0 victory against
Bradford City at KitKat Crescent.
The Minstermen were the first to threaten when Craig Farrell
forced a save from Donovan Ricketts in the second minute.
The hosts lost the services of midfielder Stuart Elliott with
a head injury five minutes later and the former Northwich Victoria
skipper was replaced by Ross Greenwood.
The Bantams then went close when midfielder Joe Colbeck cut
inside the challenge of Mark Robinson and fired over the bar
in the eleventh minute.
But York were always dangerous and Bradford keeper Ricketts
denied both Martyn Woolford and Emmanuel Panther before collecting
substitute Greenwood's long-range effort.
The Minstermen opened the scoring in the 31st minute when Ricketts
saved in quick succession from Paul Brayson and Farrell before
BEARDSLEY forced the ball home for his second
goal of the pre-season campaign.
Ex-York striker Barry Conlon had an effort disallowed for the
visitors in the final action of the opening half.
Bradford were more of a threat following the interval and home
keeper Tom Evans reached high to save from substitute Omar Daley,
who also sliced a 69th minute attempt dangerously across the
face goal.
However the hosts were still purposeful and Farrell, Beardsley
and Woolford each went close before David McGurk had a 71st
minute header cleared off the line.
