Report

Teenage striker Onome Sodje scored twice and also set up a third for Martyn Woolford as the visitors shattered Woking's unbeaten record at the Kingfield Stadium.

The former Charlton Athletic youngster was on target four minutes into each half before presenting the opportunity for Woolford to seal victory in the 71st minute.

The Minstermen named an unchanged side and went close in the third minute when Darren Kelly headed Woolford's corner wide at the far post.

Within sixty seconds the visitors were ahead as SODJE raced onto Daniel McBreen's pass and produced a deft finish to lift the ball over advancing keeper Nick Gindre and into the net.

Midfielder Stuart Elliott then curled a free-kick marginally wide two minutes later.

Woking's on loan striker Joe Gatting steered a volley straight at keeper Tom Evans in the sixth minute, while Woolford narrowly missed the left-hand post at the opposite end three minutes later.

York had an escape when Danny Bunce's cross was turned inches wide of his own upright by Kelly, before keeper Evans failed to hold Goma Lambu's cross and David McGurk hacked the ball clear.

Home striker Marvin Morgan cleared the target from distance in the 19th minute, while Evans saved Gatting's driven effort from the edge of the area five minutes later.

The visitors were still under pressure as the bustling Morgan headed wide from Bunce's cross, before Evans was forced into swift action to deny Gatting's far post header following an inswinging corner.

York midfielder Elliott had a 20-yard attempt saved at his bottom right-hand corner by Gindre in the 40th minute, while a magnificent break from skipper Emmanuel Panther five minutes later earned his side a corner after McGurk had cleared at the opposite end.

Woolford's subsequent delivery from a short routine with Paul Brayson had McGurk heading against the crossbar in the final action of an entertaining opening period.

The Minstermen increased their advantage four minutes after the interval when home midfielder Matt Pattison attempted a lofted back-pass from distance towards keeper Gindre following a cleared corner at the opposite end.

But the Woking keeper produced a heavy first touch that allowed the predatory SODJE to expertly steer the ball into the vacated net to the delight of the travelling supporters.

Sodje almost completed his hat-trick four minutes later when cutting inside from the right and flashing a shot across goal, while keeper Gindre failed to collect Darren Craddock's cross and Woolford sent the ball over the bar.

York keeper Evans saved Jay Gasson's header from Bunce's corner on the hour, before Kevin James curled a 28-yard free-kick wide four minutes later.

Woking defender Gasson was forced to clear after Sodje had raced past Gindre and pulled the ball back from a narrow angle, while the visitors' on loan striker McBreen headed down for Brayson to volley into the clutches of Gindre.

The Minstermen added a third when Sodje surged diagonally across from the right in the 71st minute before being denied twice in quick succession by Gindre and Gasson.

But Sodje wasn't finished and produced a spectacular overhead kick back across the area that allowed WOOLFORD to emphatically lash the ball home left-footed.

Goalscorer Woolford fired over from 20-yards four minutes later, before shooting straight at Gindre following a slip by Paul Lorraine in the 84th minute.

Meanwhile, Elliott also struck a shot narrowly wide of the left-hand post after progressive work from Brayson on the left.
