Jorvik Reds |
 |
At the end of the 03/04 campaign, and a 75-year stay in the
Football League, York City were relegated into non-league football.
Since the start of that season, in August, a small group of
York fans situated in the Longhurst were in discussions about
the possibility of setting up a group to liven the general matchday
experience. As a result, the Jorvik Reds formed in October 2004
as a reaction to the lull in the atmospheredue in part to lower
attendances.
Originally inspired by pictures of foreign Ultras and especially
the efforts of the Red Ultras from Aberdeen (Scotland), the
group were keen on trying to replicate the colour and passion
they managed to produce.
We believe that the Jorvik Reds in the not too distant future
could provide something unique to York City; we are only relatively
small at the moment and thus far our visual and vocal input
on matchdays have been on a similar scale but as the group carries
on growing, so will the displays that we are able to produce
and atmosphere we create will improve. Notwithstanding, the
group have already gained national recognition from similar
groups for our attempts so far.
The Jorvik Reds envisage that our efforts will create a vibrant
and exciting environment around Bootham Crescent and wherever
York may travel. We want to encourage the next generation of
City fans to stay involved and stay loyal to their local club.
For a club of this size, the fans should have a united mentality.
As a member, loyalty to the group and to the club should
be emphasised, and a united mentality and vision should be
present in all.
