Andy McMillan |
 |
Virtually throughout the 1990's City's regular right back was
Andy McMillan. From 1987 to 1999 he amassed a total of 492 League
and Cup appearances for the club putting him second to Barry
Jackson in the all-time appearance list. He scored five
goals.
He joined the club during the 1987/88 season and made his senior
debut as a 19 year old when coming on as a substitute in a Fourth
Division game at home to Mansfield Town on 28th December 1987.
He had trials with Hull, Tottentham Hotspur and Preston North
End before joining City as a trialist. He turned professional
for the club in January 1988 and apart from a serious injury
which curtailed his appearances in 1988/89, he was a virtual
ever present for the next ten seasons. From October 1991 until
March 1995, he played in 154 successive League games.
Andy figured prominently in the 1992/93 promotion winning season
and the following campaign when City reached the Second Division
play-offs. He also was in the sides that defeated Manchester
United and Everton in the Coca-Cola Cup in the mid 1990's.
"Clubman
of the Year" in 1995/96, he was rewarded with a testimonial
season in 1998/99. His last appearance for the club was in his
testimonial game against Leeds United in July 1999.
Upon leaving City, Andy had a spell in Scotland with Ayr United
helping them reach the semi-finals of the Scottish cup in 1999/2000.
Without doubt, one the finest defenders in the club's history,
he gave City outstanding service and was a most popular and
well liked player.
