1992/93 Play-Offs |

In 1992/93 City finished fourth in Division Three and met Bury
in the semi-finals of the play offs. The first leg at Gigg Lane
ended in a 0-0 draw in front of 6,620 and on 19th May 1993 the
sides met at Bootham Crescent. A Gary Swann header in the 59th
minute earned City a 1-0 agggregate victory.
The attendance was 9,206 and the line up was: Kiely, McMillan,
Hall, Pepper, Stancliffe, Atkin, McCarthy, Swann, Canham, Barnes,
Blackstone (Borthwick). Crewe Alexandra defeated Walsall 9-3
on aggregate in the other semi-final.
It was York born Swann's first goal for the club and he also
netted in the play-off final at Wembley on 29th May when 22,416
saw City beat Alexandra 5-3 on penalties after the score ended
1-1 after extra time. The side was the same that had beaten
the Shakers with Steve Tutill coming on as substitute for Paul
Stancliffe.
